Restoring Lambert Castle's Historic Windows
The renovation of Lambert Castle on Garrett Mountain, New Jersey, involved the replacement of all its windows. Lepage solid wood windows were selected for the refit. The project presented unique challenges, such as re-fitting existing stained glass into transoms, creating custom frames, and installing curved in plan brick mold casings for turret windows.
Collaboration played a pivotal role in the project’s success, as it required precision and clear communication between the architect, contractor, and Lepage Millwork. The teams engaged in mathematical gymnastics to calculate window sizes that would fit the masonry openings and preserve the interior historical wood molding.
In the end, the herculean effort paid off, resulting in windows that arrived as ordered and a smooth installation process. The Lepage windows exceeded all expectations, blending modern functionality with the castle’s historical charm. Lambert Castle now stands as a testament to the power of collaboration, technical expertise, and meticulous attention to detail in preserving a cherished piece of history.
